Description

Alpe d’Huez offers a good all round range of skiing with an established reputation for long sunshine hours. The resort is snow sure from December through to the end of April. A popular resort with all Europeans it has an efficient lift system and snow making installation in place.

Set high in the Grandes Rousses mountains, Alpe d’Huez is perched on a sunny plateau above the beautiful Oisans valley which is reached by 22 hair pin bends! The resort is known for it's long sunshine hours and boasts the fifth largest ski area in France, linking the villages of Vaujany, Oz, Villard-Reculas and Auris en Oisans providing the skier with over 200km of snowsure piste to explore., and an alternative base in the linked villages if you prefer village charm to convenience. The Glacier above the resort guarantees skiing at high altitude when the whether is uncertain lower down the valley.

The resort boasts excellent non ski amenities including a superb sports centre with outdoor pool & skating rink. Bars and restaurants are in abundance

Alpe d’Huez is a big ski resort, rivalling big ski areas like La Plagne & Val d'Isere for the extent and variety of its slopes. All levels of skiers are catered for with plenty of green runs for beginners/lower intermediates immediately above the main village. For confident intermediates there is a fine selection of runs all over the ski area. Each area has easy - hard reds varying between slopes to challenge you. There are some lovely long runs down to Vaujany/oz for some serious carving time! For the nervous intermediate there are a selection of blue runs including the run back down to Alpe d’Huez from the main mountain. For expert skiers, this is definately a good choice for black runs, with even some of the reds pushing on black in our opinion. It also boasts some great off piste to provide some fun.

Boarders who are confident will find this resort has plenty to offer with alot of good free riding to be had. The off piste is good and varied and well worth checking out with a guide. For nervous boarders or lesser experienced the main nursery slopes are all mostly accessed by drag lifts, so once you have gained control you can enjoy the pistes on offer.
