Description

Vaujany is a rural farming village that has direct links to the extensive ski area of Alpe d'Huez. A picturesque mountain village with two sections, built at different levels into the mountainside facing the ski area. The top section, above the resort is linked to the village below by an impressive glass domed escalator. The main street is pedestrianised with several restuarants. The lower section of the village "le village" is built in traditional style and offers a selection of shops, restaurants and cafe. There is a superb sports centre with flume slides accessible from this section.

Vaujany is a great base to stay if your wanting some village charm with the snow sure guarantee of Alpe d'huez.

The skiing is suited to all abilities, being particularly suited to intermediates with great opportunities for off piste enthusiasts. With direct access to Alpe d'huez via the 160 person cable car, every level of skier is catered for.

The ESF ski school in Le Massif can provide group and private lessons. Skiing children are well catered for by the ESF ski school (from 4 years of age). For non ski children there are daycare nurseries to take in children from six months to five years, and for this it's advisable to book well in advance.

No other alpine resort combines tradition and the modern as well as Vaujany. Hugging the mountain, the family-friendly village with crooked alleyways seems to be an idyllic village. Thanks to a reservoir in the valley, Vaujany is one of the wealthiest communities in France. For this reason, you will not only find one of the most modern gondolas, but also a large pool complex, an ice rink and a free parking garage. Those with tired legs can use the modern escalators, which connect the various resort levels with each other. On the other side of the mountain, Alpe d'Huez lies at an altitude of 1,860 m and offers a spellbinding panorama of the Pic Blanc summit (3,330 m) and l’Entendard (3,470 m), as well as various shopping centres with cafes, bars and countless small shops, inviting you to explore them.

The ski range and lift information on this page is based on the Alpe d'huez ski area.
