Schönau (630 m) is located at the edge of the Berchtesgaden National Park, the most south-eastern community in Germany. The peaks of the Hohe Göll, the Hagen Mountains and Steinernen Meerauf form a stony border to the east and south – the common border with neighbouring Salzburger Land.
