If an author dedicates a poem to a place, it can only be worth travelling there. Friedrich Nietzsche spent 7 summers in Sils-Maria, and the resort didn't only give him inspiration for his poem named after it. It's not too much of a surprise: after all, Sils-Maria is located beautifully in between the lakes Silsersee and Silvaplanersee, at the entrance to the romantic Flextal valley which is car-free and can only be reached by a horse-drawn bus. Since it wasn't only Nietzsche, but also other artists like Joseph Beuys or David Bowie who found their inspiration here, Sils-Maria is called "THE cultural centre of Engadin". The museum "Friedrich-Nietzsche-Haus" serves as monument for the poet. But not only the creative ones are impressed by Sils-Maria. The Engadin valley is also a paradise for winter sports fans, thanks to its close proximity to the famous ski areas around St. Moritz. The Furschellas, the local mountain, gives you direct access to the Corvatsch ski area with the highest mountain station in the Eastern Alps (3,303 m).
